WHEN YOU ARRIVE: | |
HOW TO FEED THE DONKEYS When you open the door of the container, you will notice that one donkey will go immediately in there. This is Tica. You can get her out by standing very close behind her back and push her out. Yell a bit and she will go out. If not, leave her there. She will go out when you start feeding.
First get the hay. Inside the container there’s a sign that shows how much hay you should use. Every donkey needs to eat 2 Kg of hay so when you know that a bale weighs 30/35 Kg you can think of how much hay you should feed. For 47 donkeys we use 3 bales of hay. You can put the bale in a wheel barrel or use the dolly to move the bale
Drop some hay on different spots in the area around the container. This will distract the donkeys from the other food and people that drive the road can see there are donkeys. Don’t forget to feed the donkeys in the stables. Give them one slice of hay per donkey.
CLEAN UP THE POOP | REFRESH THE WATER |
Clean the area that is indicated with a darker orange at the picture. You can use the wheel barrel, the little rake and the little shovel to put the droppings in the wheel barrel. You can also use the big shovel if you find that easier. Do it the way you want. Don’t forget to clean up the corals! | Empty the water basins and use the broom to clean them. Make sure there’s almost no dirt on the wall and on the floor of the basin. If necessary scrub the walls and floor. Refill the basins three-quarter high with water. Don’t forget to clean the water basins in the corals the same way. |
Take Route 4a from the hotels and follow this road for 14 km, pass all the circles/roundabouts until you see a sign for the French Men’s Pass. Make a left turn onto the French Men’s Pass, then 1st left, 2nd right. On that dirt road you will find the Donkey Sanctuary after about 200 meters.
If you have a GPS device, navigate to these coordinates:  N 12°48.974’  W 069°96.642’  This will bring you to the entrance of the Donkey Sanctuary.
