Donette Looper is an equine lover. She has 8 horses, a mule and a donkey at home. Now it is time to expand by adopting Roland one of our very friendly and elderly donkeys.
Cynthia Lungi came prepared with loads of carrots. Blackie is one of the smart donkeys who knew right away. He followed her all the way to the visitors center to get HIS snack. She had to adopt him, no more words needed. Blackie was hit by a car back in 2005 when he was about 7 months old. He broke his front leg. After surgery the leg healed well. He can do everything, run, play and everything that a donkey does, however he walks like Charlie Chaplin
Melody Thomas adopted Amadeus for her husband's birthday on January 1st. They visited Aruba 10 years ago right after Amadeus was born. They thought he was such a cute little guy. Amadeus used to walk with his mom Bunny until recently when she was homed with the elderly donkeys across the visitors center. He is on his own now and looking for a buddy. That will take some time, it will work out! Don't worry.
Pamela Lee Brown from Virginia visited the Sanctuary in March 2012 and loved all the donkeys. To claim her own, she adopted Pirate who was found wandering in Angochi which is near the old Sanctuary. Until he was about 14 years old, he always walked with his mom Chica. We had to separate them because Chica was getting too skinny and therefor now lives in the DONKIA, to have better and longer access to food. It worked. She looks good now.
The Gentry/Honea Family raises miniature donkeys in the USA. They were on vacation last November and decided to adopt Storm, one of our donkeys for the Holidays. Storm is with us for some years now. She had a baby, Pegaso, who passed away when he was about 6 years old on a colic. Often donkeys survive a colic, this one was too severe though.
Take Route 4a from the hotels and follow this road for 14 km, pass all the circles/roundabouts until you see a sign for the French Men’s Pass. Make a left turn onto the French Men’s Pass, then 1st left, 2nd right. On that dirt road you will find the Donkey Sanctuary after about 200 meters.
If you have a GPS device, navigate to these coordinates:  N 12°48.974’  W 069°96.642’  This will bring you to the entrance of the Donkey Sanctuary.
