Maartje choose Rocco to be adopted last year. After feeding her, she didn't want him to leave her and crabbed his T-shirt. This year after he fed her, she kept following him everywhere he went. They have a special bond those two.
Blanca was stealing the show. The Mitchell Family says: "she has the most adorable smile!" So decided to adopt her. Blanca is one of our elderly donkeys and lives in a separate area where the donkeys get special soaked food.
Debbie Hess spent hours at the sanctuary, talked with almost all of the volunteers and said: My favorite part of this beautiful Island - the Donkeys! She adopted Sgt Pepper who came to live with us back in 2016. Back back in the day we had a youth club and one of our members rescued Sgt Pepper. When she wanted to become a veterinarian and left for her studies she asked if he could come and live with us.
Leslie Lin adopted Scar because she loves his story.
Scar had some huge scars on the back of his legs. That is where the other donkeys bite when they fight. During the years the scars sort of faded, not so obvious anymore.
Over the years Danica Badillo adopted Bringamosa, Kromoor a.k.a. Crooked Ear and Kamino. This time she adopted Esmeralda. As far as we know she is our eldest donkey. We think she was born somewhere around 1985?
Take Route 4a from the hotels and follow this road for 14 km, pass all the circles/roundabouts until you see a sign for the French Men’s Pass. Make a left turn onto the French Men’s Pass, then 1st left, 2nd right. On that dirt road you will find the Donkey Sanctuary after about 200 meters.
