Diva & Gypsy
Looking for 2 Best friends: We found Diva 1 day old on October 5, 2014. She was bottle fed by us and taken under the wings of Queeny. Queeny raised her to be a donkey. Which we cannot do, we are too soft. Donkey moms are very strict in upbringing their babies. Gypsy came in 2018 with a very severe colic. They are always together and about the same age. Of course you can also adopt one without the other. In the picture Diva right and Gypsy left.
Eva, Sasha & Negrita
If you are looking for 2 sisters: Eva, born 21-7-2003 and Sasha somewhere in 1993. Sasha came in as a young mare with her mom Sassy and Eva was born later. They are both best friends with Negrita. . Of course you can also adopt one without the other. Sasha is the donkey on the left, Eva in the middle and Negrita on the right. Of course you can also adopt either one of them.
Lugo
Locked in a garden together with Cinnemon and Zoja in San Nicolas. That was an easy catch. Although for the donkeys it was very stress full. Lugo is named after a Swedish pup from one of our volunteers at the time. Lugo means Light. The name doesn’t fit the color of his fur. He is a black/white donkey and very sweet but also very shy (still).
Evan
He is one of the few donkeys who has wandered into the sanctuary all by his own. Of course he was welcome to stay, but after a while he just disappeared as suddenly as he had come in. He did not stay away long, as the companionship of the other donkeys, the good food and the lovely hay had a definite charm. After some time away, he was knocking at our door again, asking to come in, this time for good. Evan, a robust, dominant, but very friendly donkey, loves living here now. He looks very cool, a bit like a Belgian postman’s horse and he has a weird characteristic: when he is braying, it sounds as if his vocal chords need a dash of WD40: there is a high note in his voice.
Santa
Santa was hit by a car in June 2010 in San Nicolas. We think he was born in 2006. It took us more than 2,5 years to catch him. He is with us since end of January 2013. We did treat his broken leg with injections to get the fracture “glued” together with calcium. He is doing fine and a very sweet donkey. He lives in a small group to be able to get to the food in time.
Take Route 4a from the hotels and follow this road for 14 km, pass all the circles/roundabouts until you see a sign for the French Men’s Pass. Make a left turn onto the French Men’s Pass, then 1st left, 2nd right. On that dirt road you will find the Donkey Sanctuary after about 200 meters.
If you have a GPS device, navigate to these coordinates:  N 12°48.974’  W 069°96.642’  This will bring you to the entrance of the Donkey Sanctuary.
